A new selection of British lidos highlights ways outdoor swimming continues beyond summer. Heated pools, restored historic sites and waterside leisure centres offer different experiences, from regular lane sessions to longer visits with saunas and poolside food.
At Beccles, pools are being heated to 28°C in winter for the first time, initially through early January. Hathersage’s historic thirty-metre pool uses renewable heating and remains open year-round with reduced winter hours. Reading’s Thames Lido pairs a restored pool with spa facilities and a restaurant.
Other locations include Scotland’s Portavadie and Chesham Moor, where facilities and temperatures vary. The feature is a guide to options rather than a guarantee of current availability. Visitors need to check the chosen venue’s timetable and booking conditions, particularly where winter sessions are limited or temperatures change with the weather.
