Nvidia has announced a donation of computing power worth two hundred and fifty million dollars to support AI safety research in the UK. The contribution is planned over five years and is intended for work on autonomous agents and security.
The announcement comes as the government confirms that its AI Security Institute will be able to examine advanced models before release. Researchers need substantial computing resources to test systems capable of planning and performing sequences of tasks.
Nvidia says most of the support will reach the wider British safety and security research community. The donation is therefore better understood as access to research infrastructure than a consumer product launch, with its value tied to the capacity offered and the investigations that can use it.
