Exeter secured its first Premiership victory of the campaign against Newcastle, despite three tries from Christian Wade. The Newcastle winger became only the second player to reach a hundred tries in the competition’s top tier.
Ross Vintcent scored twice early for Exeter, while a late try from Georgian prop Bachuki Tchumbadze helped settle a contest that produced nine tries overall. Newcastle had threatened to end a long wait for an away league win.
The match also included a promising debut from eighteen-year-old Jake Dalziel. Exeter’s relief came from converting a lively attacking game into points in the table, while Wade’s personal landmark remained a major story even though his side finished on the losing end.
