Kiri and Lou Go Raaa! expands the New Zealand children’s television series into an hour-long film. It introduces the lively yellow dinosaur and her gentler purple companion by showing how their friendship began.
Writer-director Harry Sinclair keeps the story compact, with Olivia Tennet and Jemaine Clement among the voice performers. Existing viewers receive an origin story, while newcomers can enter the characters’ prehistoric world without familiarity with the short television episodes.
The Guardian’s review praises the economical storytelling and considers the running time suitable for younger audiences. The feature’s appeal rests on the contrast between its two central personalities and the development of their friendship, rather than extending a familiar show solely through a much longer runtime.
