Security researchers are reporting growth in scams that place deceptive invitations or reminders inside electronic calendars. An apparently forgotten meeting can direct a user to a website requesting login details, turning a familiar planning tool into an entry point for fraud.
The invitations may refer to a project discussion or a service renewal. A specialist interviewed by The Guardian describes rapid growth, with criminals using the appearance of an ordinary calendar item to encourage people to trust the link.
The report concerns credential theft rather than a defect in someone’s memory. Checking an unexpected event through a known contact or service channel is a practical way to separate a genuine invitation from an unfamiliar request before supplying account information to the linked page.
