Wuthering Heights: The House of the Damned recasts Emily Brontë’s novel as a horror film. Becca Hirani’s version follows Lockwood’s visit to Heathcliff, but makes supernatural imagery more explicit than in the original gothic story.

Ross Townsend-Green plays the visitor, Sky Cheema appears as Heathcliff and Elle O’Hara portrays Catherine. The adaptation introduces confinement, hallucinations and frightening appearances as the familiar house becomes a more direct setting for terror.

The Guardian’s review is sceptical about the transformation and compares elements of the visit with Dracula. Its judgement concerns how the film handles a literary source: a move towards horror can alter atmosphere and narrative emphasis even when the names and basic encounter remain recognisable.
