The United States women recovered from a two-goal deficit to draw 2–2 with Spain in Pennsylvania. Ashley Sanchez and Mallory Swanson scored after returning from lengthy absences, preventing a second successive home defeat against the reigning world champions.
Alexia Putellas and Salma Paraluello had put Spain in control before the interval. The American response came through counterattacks: Sanchez finished a move involving Sofia Wilson, while substitute Michelle Cooper supplied Swanson for the equaliser. Both squads were missing important players.
For US coach Emma Hayes, the matches provided a test of developing squad depth rather than a final verdict on World Cup prospects. Attention now turns to the Concacaf W Championship quarter-final against El Salvador in November, when qualification for the 2027 tournament will be at stake.
